Hangry Hillbilly

Welcome to The Hangry Hillbilly blog. I’m new to blogging so be patient with me. Truth be told...I have no idea what I'm doing but I love cooking and thought sharing recipes might be fun.  If someone had to put a label on me as far as diets go I'm not sure what it would be. Let me explain... I was ignorant about factory farming. I had no idea what a factory farm was and once I viewed videos of what goes on in slaughter houses and on factory farms (thanks alot PETA!) I knew I could never go back to eating meat again.  Ignorance is bliss when it comes to factory farming and that's exactly what that industry is banking on. So, I eat no meat; no chicken, no red meat, no turkey however I do on occasion eat wild caught seafood not farmed. I very rarely eat dairy (almost never actually) and no eggs.  So here’s the deal, the vegetarians won’t let me in their club, the Vegans don’t want me and the meat-eaters definitely have kicked me off their mountain a long time ago! So, what’s an anti-factory farm hillbilly to do? Should I be a flexitarian or maybe a pescetarian?  Who knows and really who gives a crap. I don’t really need to fit into any particular group. I’m content to just be a hillbilly trying to make my little neck of the woods a more humane place to eat and live. I grew up eating country cooking and I have enjoyed converting those recipes and others to adopt more humane and healthy ingredients. I also enjoy simple recipes with ingredients that are easy to find.  I love to cook but if it's too complicated I'm less likly to prepare it. I'm a bit lazy! So, join me and share some of my recipes. Feel free to tweak them to your liking and please let me know what you’ve done that has dressed them up and I’ll pass it along. Oh yeah, as far as the “Hangry” thing….I don’t remember exactly when I first heard the word "hangry" or who came up with it but it most definitely describes my husband.  I have never seen a person get more angry from being hungry then him so when my daughter and I were thinking of a name we couldn’t leave her Dad out.  As far as the Hillbilly part, I was born and raised in West Virginia and grew up eating the best country cooking around courtesy of my Mom. So there you have it…the Hangry Hillbilly. Welcome! Oh yeah and if you don’t like my blog….don’t let the doorknob hit ya where the good Lord split ya!
